How to connect a 3 modem to pc via USB port

In the same way that your mobile phone works, you can access the internet all over the country with a 3 modem, also known as a 3 dongle.  To be fair, a dongle is any little plug in stick that communicates.  Wireless keyboards have them, and you can get bluetooth dongles as well.  What we are talking about are dongles that are modems -ie – they connect a computer to the internet.

USB is just the name of the common port in to which most people plug in mice, keyboards, external hard drives, modems… anything!  There’s a picture of one here.

Thankfully, prices at home in the UK are so increasingly reasonable that many are ditching there old landline and line rental in favour of a mobile phone and mobile internet.

When you sign up to mobile broadband your provider may supply you with the USB dongle required to get you online – although some deals now include a subsidised or free laptop, which have a data card inside so you don’t need the 3  modem.

Most of the time you will get the 3 modem for free when you sign up to a 18-24 month contract. 

Generally you will only have to pay for a 3 modem/dongle if you go for a pay as you go (PAYG) mobile broadband deal.

You can also get Mobile Broadband deals with a free laptop. The laptops that are on offer include models by Sony, Dell, Acer and Toshiba to name a few, top brand laptops and netbooks going cheap – especially if you are going to get mobile broadband anyway!.
