Not bad when you consider this slim laptop is only 25mm at it’s thickest point and tapers away making it appear even thinner than it really is. Plus as you can see, it is similarly spec’d to all the other notebooks out there with an Intel Atom CPU.

Actually, it is better than most in a few key areas. It had 1GB RAM which is double many notebooks and means things like looking through photo’s from your digital camera are enjoyable and easy – especially as it has an integrated memory card reader. Furthermore it has an 11.6 inch screen which is really big for a notebook! Luckily, even with a big screen it is still very portable thanks to its slim design… and it only weighs 1.25kg! Many laptops weigh 3 times this much.

160GB hard drive is massive for this class and there are a few design touched that you would only expect on higher end models. More expensive models would be have to be recommended if you do a serious amount of typing, multitasking, gaming or graphics work, but seeing as this is portable, I’d leave those tasks for the office desktop PC and enjoy showing this PC off to your friends and colleagues while you’re out and about!

The sleek Acer 6920G-583 is very well specified laptop and as such would come under the category of a desktop PC replacement!  The Intel Core 2 Duo processor is one of the new, more powerful ‘T’ range and is not Celeron or Pentium or CoreDuo, but the even better still Core2Duo which will be enough for the most intensive multimedia applications.

Furthermore it comes with a luxurious Blu-Ray DVD drive and 16″ widescreen display – all at HD picture quality.  If you’re a gamer usually running a laptop is a disappointment because of the lack of a decent graphics card.  However, the Acer 6920G-comes with the NVIDIA GeForce 9500 graphics processor – not bad at all!  320GB for a hard drive in a laptop is very spacious, and 3GB RAM is also ample – If you’re a normal-heavy user I doubt you’d see any performance increases with more RAM at this stage.

Nice extra touches include surprisingly loud speakers, a lovely deep blue finish to the front (rather than boring grey and black), good looking keys and an integrated web cam so you can do your free Skype video calls wherever you are.  It’s not the lightest at 3.6Kg but you can’t get quality components and a large screen much lighter, especially for this price.  This is the laptop I would buy.  Get a free Acer 6920g.
